Volunteers at PFM are loosly categorized into the following three groups. Which group best fits your personal circumstance and desire to volunteer with us? We are open to suggestions and offers to opportunites if you have something else in mind. Most of our volunteers fit into one or two of these groups; but we do have some very dedicated folks who fit into all three groups!

• At-the-Market/On-Site Volunteers volunteer regularly to provide assistance to staff in various ways in helping the market run smoothly, stay clean and safe and to ensure the customers feel at home at the market.
• Special Skills Volunteers may be unable to volunteer on a regular basis, but share their expertise with the market in the areas of art, graphic design, photography, gardening, event planning, writing, media, research, data collection, etc.
• Volunteer Groups engage in one‐time, annual, or quarterly volunteer opportunities with the market on larger, special projects.

• Volunteers must be willing to work in variable weather conditions. All markets take place outdoors.
• Work well as a member of a team. Volunteers interact with vendors, customers, and other volunteers and staff.  Communication and reliability are essential.
• Wear appropriate clothing and closed toed shoes and secure long hair.
• Be at least 15 years old accompanied by an adult. If you are 16 -17 years old, a guardian’s permission is required but adult accompaniment is not.
• May be required to carry, pull, and/or push up to 50lbs. depending on the volunteer duty.
• Please inform us of any accomodations you might require.

Are you an early riser? Help us turn an empty parking lot into the market space!

There’s a lot of work that goes into making each market day a successful, enjoyable, and safe event. Having your extra hands makes the setup process at the beginning of the market go quickly and smoothly. It also frees up staff to have flexibility to address any day-of things that come up. We must be ready to go when the market bell rings- would you like to help us?

You’d be setting up banners and A-frame signs, safety cones, trash cans, handwash stations. Help set up tents with weights for our green info booth, programs, musician and guest artists. PFM staff are pros and can do it by themselves but it’s so much easier with someone on the other side. Set up our rest area with bistro sets, tables and benches, turf and child size tents. The process typically takes no more than 1.5 hours and is a fun volunteer opportunity to do with a friend or a group. Held every Saturday morning; it’s a great way to kick off the day.

Lend us a hand to return the market area back into a regular parking lot!

There’s a lot of work that goes into making each market day a successful, enjoyable and zero-waste event. Having your extra hands makes the breakdown process at the end of the market go quickly and smoothly. Take down banners and A-frame signs, wipe down and fold up tables and benches, remove weights and close up tents, empty hand wash stations, collect safety cones and trash cans.  Market trash is then sorted and compostable materials removed and kept out of our landfill.  The process typically takes no more than 1.5 hours and is a fun volunteer opportunity to do with a friend or a group. Held every Saturday at the end of market.

Help give our vendors a break!

Our vendors are at their booth from setup to breakdown. Rarely do they get the chance to step away for a bathroom break, or to grab a quick ready-to-eat meal, or even do a quick run through the market to see who other vendors are. The vendor aide will visit vendors to offer to do a quick shop for them, or grab a meal or drink, or even provide brief booth coverage for a few minutes. Held every Saturday during the middle of market.

Do you ever wonder what happens to produce and baked goods that don’t get sold by the end of the market? Since April 2023, we have been visiting vendors toward the end of market, asking if they have any leftovers they want to donate to Prescott Community Cupboard. We gather up all the donations, organize, then load for delivery to Prescott Community Cupboard so they have even more fresh and local options for our neighbors in need. Held every Saturday near the end of market.

Help us deliver fresh and local food to our community after the market closes!

At the end of every market, several of our farmers and bakers donate leftover products to our partners at Prescott Community Cupboard. We need your help in delivering up to eight crates of food donations to PCC a block away from PFM, then returning empty crates to the market. 

You’d be using your reliable vehicle and, at this time, would not receive mileage reimbursement.

TAKE NOTE: Your vehicle must be able to accommodate up to 8 crates of food (four crates, stacked two high)- a SUV with the seats down flat, a truck with a covering, a van, etc.

Help us build Feed Your Neighbors (FYN) produce boxes for community members in need!

Through our donor-supported Feed Your Neighbors program, we pre-purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from our local farmers and growers. Each box contains $40 worth of locally grown fruits and veggies. At the start of the Saturday market, volunteers set up the FYN market booth, gather the pre-purchased food from several vendors, assemble the food boxes, load them for transport, then breakdown the FYN booth and convert it into a rest area for the remainder of the market day.

Help us deliver Feed Your Neighbors (FYN) fresh produce to our community members in need!

Our Feed Your Neighbors program purchases fresh fruits and vegetables from our local farmers and growers. We need your help in distributing it. We have two delivery opportunities. You’d be using your reliable vehicle and, at this time, would not receive mileage reimbursement.

• Households: Deliver boxes to approximately 8 households within a 3 mile radius of PFM, leaving the box at the front door.  
• Prescott Community Cupboard: Deliver up to 3 crates of produce to PCC a block away from PFM, return empty crates to market.

See your neighbors, meet your farmers, know your food scraps!

This booth is where we collect most of the raw food scraps that we use to build our compost piles at the compost site the following day. Tasks include weighing incoming green PFM buckets and swapping them for clean ones, logging the number of participating customers, answering questions about the compost program, and helping to prevent any contaminants (meat, dairy, trash) from entering the compost system.  Held every Saturday during PFM’s regular market.

Join us at the compost site for a Sunday “salad day”!

Sunday mornings at the Community Compost site located at 997 Schemmer Drive is where we mix food scraps collected from the Saturday market with wood chips, sawdust and leaves to create a fresh compost pile. Learn about the compost process and how to build the “right mix”. In addition to building a new pile, we will turn mature piles and wash food scrap receptacles. Not all tasks require heavy lifting or the use of tools. Fresh coffee and cold refreshments are provided.
