Program Updates

We’re so grateful to everyone who helps us support and expand local agriculture, cultivate a healthy community and increase access to affordable local foods. Here are some recent highlights from PFM:

The Prescott Community Compost crew is working hard to bring compost to gardeners in anticipation of the summer growing season! Thanks to volunteers and staff, the piles are cooking right along. It takes about nine months for the compost to “mature”, so your spring garden will benefit from scraps we received last summer. The approximately 15 tons of food scraps we received so far this year will be ready for sifting and bagging in the fall. There is compost available for sale now to prepare your beds in anticipation of spring planting! So, however you garden, or even if you don’t, stop by the purple compost booth at the market to drop your scraps or ask questions. The 2024 Leaf Drive was also successful; we filled 16 “corrals” with leaves (more than doubling the amount we collected last year!) that will be part of the compost recipe through next fall.

Our Feed Your Neighbors (FYN) program remains a true lifeline to fresh fruits and vegetables for our community members in need. This program provides fresh food to approximately 500 households each month. We are thrilled to share that 11 households were removed from the waitlist and are now shopping for fresh food at the market, including vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, bread, milk, herbs, and nuts from our local farmers, ranchers and bakers. Thanks to donors like you, we are able to do a small part to help these families. Currently, 26 households are awaiting FYN voucher assistance. We’re busy applying for grants to secure additional funding this year to address the growing need for food assistance.

NoCo Community Kitchen provides essential commissary space to 20 entrepreneurs, including food trucks, caterers and food educators. Please consider patronizing the local businesses who use the kitchen – they are listed on our website. We’re thrilled to support and be supported by those who make delicious food for our community!

Our work toward a resilient local food system continues, and we look forward to doing this crucial work with you!
