Featured Vendor: The Little Lemon Drink Co.

PFM recently interviewed Scott and Becky and asked them to tell us more about The Little Lemon Drink Co., formerly known as Citrinita, The Little Lemon, LLC.

Tell us about yourself and where you’re from.

Hello! This is Scott and Becky and we are The Little Lemon Drink Co. Becky moved to Prescott with her family in 1991 and has lived here for most of her life. Scott grew up in Vermont but moved west in 2010 and has lived in Prescott since 2015.

What do you sell at your booth?

As a beverage vendor, we set up each Saturday to offer you thirst quenching drinks to help get through those warm market days. Each of our iced drinks are crafted with local ingredients to support Prescott area businesses. Our biggest seller is the 100% fresh squeezed honey lemonade, which is sweetened using raw, unfiltered, Arizona honey from the Honey Man here in Prescott. Half the fun of getting one of our drinks is to watch us squeeze out the lemon juice with our citrus press! We also offer a rotating variety of homemade flavorings such as lavender, mint, and ginger.

In addition to our lemonade, we sell a cold brewed coffee that we brew fresh for each market day. We get our coffee beans from Prescott Coffee Roasters, who roasts and delivers the fresh beans to us just a few days before the market-talk about fresh!

Our last drink is the iced prickly pear green tea that is hot brewed, cooled, then served over ice. The friends and fellow PFM vendors at Prickly Pear Green Tea Co. supply us with their wonderfully blended loose leaf green tea mix.

Each of our drinks can be mixed with the lemonade to create a new taste. If you are feeling adventurous, try my favorite drink, the coffee lemonade!

What prompted you to launch your business?

Before starting our lemonade business Becky and I worked as Field Botanists, roaming the southwest and completing plant surveys and inventories for various government agencies and private consultancies. We launched our business to help ground our work life, so we could spend more time at home, in Prescott. We also have a passion for refreshing drinks!

How long have you had your business and how long have you been a vendor at PFM?

We started our business in April 2017. Our first event was a mountain bike race called the Prescott Punisher. We pulled together a small cart and squeezed out a few lemonades for the families and racers. It was such a great feeling to put energy into our very own business. Ever since that day we’ve slowly rolled our income back into the business and now we are serving at events all over the state ranging in size from our beautiful Prescott Farmers Market to events with 150,000 people.

Is there anything special behind the name “The Little Lemon Drink Co.”?

We chose the name because we love our small cart set-up and we like to put a little lemon in our drinks.

Tell us about how you get ready for the market.

Most of our preparation for the market starts the day before; this is when we grind our coffee and start the cold brewing process. We let our cold brew soak for about 16 hours, which gives the coffee a full bodied flavor without bitterness which overwhelmingly comes along with some cold brew coffees.

After that, we mix our honey “simple syrup”, which is the base to our fresh squeezed lemonade. We also make the flavorings and green tea at this time.

The next morning, we get up bright and early to finish up our cold brew by filtering out the grounds. All that’s left at that point is loading up the cart and driving over to set up at the market.

What’s special about your business?

We love that we are able to offer a healthier way to quench your thirst while supporting Prescott area businesses.

What are your plans for the future?

We are always looking ahead to keep our business growing and thriving. We are currently taking a deep look into bottling our lemonades for distribution throughout the region. We are just starting the process but we hope to work out more details this winter.

In the immediate future, you can be on the lookout for our new street cart that we have just completed and licensed as a mobile drink cart. We will be using it as our primary cart at PFM.

Do you vend at any other markets?

Prescott Farmers Market is the only farmers market we vend at, but you can also find us squeezing lemonades at the courthouse square so come on by and we’ll give you the tour!

How can we find you on social media?

You can find us on Facebook and Instagram and Twitter.
