We interviewed Brian Best and Coryn Leaman to learn more about Spiritual Bean Coffee and why they are so excited to join PFM as our newest coffee vendor.
Tell us about yourselves: Brian shares, “I have always loved my coffee black. For me it’s the best way to fully enjoy the flavor of coffee. And a good cup of coffee, is good to the very last drop.”
In 2017 I began to roast coffee as a hobby; with a little 1- pound roaster my wife got me for Christmas. I spent the better part of three years creating my recipes and researching how to roast coffee. Since then, I have gotten a commercial roaster due to the overwhelming orders that were created by giving friends and family samples of my roasts.
In October of 2022, Coryn and I started a successful website www.spiritualbeancoffee.com to reach out to more coffee drinkers. Now, via vending at PFM, we are able to share our roasts with fellow coffee drinkers in the community.
How long have you been in business? We’ve been in business since 2017
How long have you been a vendor at PFM? This is our first season!
What do you sell, generally speaking? We sell hot coffee pour-overs, iced coffee, bags of our whole freshly roasted beans and baked goodies.
How would you describe one of your products to someone who has never tried it before? Our coffee is freshly ground that morning and your coffee is made right in front of you! Originated by the French; we pour hot water through the grounds and it drips right into your cup! In our opinion, this is the best way to taste the roast! If you are a true coffee drinker, you will love our coffee!
How do your products differ from store bought products? We buy organic fair trade coffee beans from heirloom farms around the world. Our recipes are designed for each bean type. We roast each batch for the best flavor of each type of bean! Many companies don’t have recipes, they just roast all their beans the same. Our beans are freshly roasted and kept whole to keep in flavor and freshness until you are ready to use it.
What is your top selling product? Coffee pour-overs our the number one seller.
What is special about your business? What sets you apart? We roast our beans to fit each type of bean. We never burn our beans to get flavor! Some green beans we buy are honey processed, which creates a different flavor to enjoy! We create recipes using different types of beans to change the flavor. Beans are roasted differently to create flavors like citrus, caramel or chocolate.
Why is supporting local agriculture and business important to you? As a Holistic Health Practitioner, I have always tried to eat local, which for me, is within a 300 mile radius. It’s the best for our body and it’s the best for our community!
What are your business plans for the future? We hope to have our coffee house up and running by late August! Stay tuned for details!
What is your favorite market memory? The first day at our booth, so many market locals came up to us and said if we need any help to let them know. It was very touching!
What else would you like customers to know about you and your business? We love community and that’s what we hope to create with our coffee shop. To us community is the family you choose and we all help each other share ideas, enjoy life and prosper.
How can customers stay in touch? Follow Spiritual Bean Coffee on Instagram, visit our website www.spiritualbeancoffee.com and of course, visit us in person, Saturdays at PFM. Our booth is typically located in the middle of the middle row, right in the center of the market area.
